| | The REAL Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything...
This morning, while taking a shower, I had an epiphany (no, not an
apostrophe - lightning did not strike my brain). I was thinking
about the recent movie adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy, as well as the book and other versions, and I realized that
Adams was trying to tell us something.
No, not 42.
It's about belonging.. and knowing your place in the world.
Arthur Dent represents the common man - always muddling along, always
feeling out of place - the alien among the aliens. Ford, for all
of his weirdness on Earth, is at home among the stars. Zaphod,
even Trillian all seem to have their places. Only when Arthur
stops trying to be human, and just accepts that he is the alien, does
he finally get peace.
We're all aliens on this planet earth. We need to stop looking at
the other guy as the weird one, and accept that we're all weird - just
in different ways. And the universe couldn't care less.
