| | Yesterday was Mother's Day. I spent the day in my car, in the
rain at an empty park waiting for someone who never showed. Good
thing I had my laptop to keep me company. Best investment I ever
made. Between my car and my laptop, some days I think I could
just leave the human world behind. If only I could find an
endless supply of gas ;)
I did get a couple of things done - called my mom, talked to her for an
hour. Called my dad, too, just 'cause. Had an
interesting conversation with him about the government and reactions to
things since 9/11. Kind of related to my rant below, we talked
about how the over-reaction of HomeSec has affected everything in a
sort of trickle-down effect. Last week, a young kid was suspended from school
for having NAILS in his pocket. Nails fer cryin' out loud!
Not even nine-inch ones, either. Small carpentry nails left over
from a boy scout project over the weekend. Man if I was ever told
to empty my pockets, I'd've been suspended about every day for the
random miscellaneous junk that ends up in my pockets. But this
kid quite OBVIOUSLY had no foul play in mind - he was just
forgetful. And for that, he got suspended. He's freaking
11-years-old!!!!! This has GOT to stop, or soon kids will be
getting suspended for having mechanical pencils (they have metal tips
and could pierce someone's carotid artery!), or twinkies ('cause some obese kid might steal it, eat it and have a coronary embolism), or freakin' aspirin!!!
What next? "Teacher! Suspend Alex - he BREATHED on
me! He could have some fatal disease and be infecting me!!!"
People. Get it together. If we don't learn to work, live
and play together WITHOUT trying to sue one another's pants off, we're
going to destroy ourselves. Life isn't perfect. Learn to
cope.
